What is Double Glazing ?
Retrofit double-glazing is the process of replacing your existing single glazing with double glazed units. The look of the windows will stay the same the only difference is you will notice a warmer, dryer, quieter home.
How Does Double Glazing work ?
Double glazing uses two panes of glass separated by a spacer containing desicant which controls any latent moisture. Sometimes gases are introduced in the gap between the glass panes. We use mostly argon gas which is a heavy inert safe gas to provide an extra layer of insulation. There is a noise reducing element with any double glazing but for double glazing introduced especially to combat noise the double glazing should include a laminated panel in the unit make up and even an acoustic laminated panel with a soft plastic interlayer that absorbs noise. This interlayer can be made thicker for extreme noise reduction and as a double glazed unit also provide great thermal insulation.
